“Do what you love and do it often.”
Fiber, Flowers, and Fruits
-
Sheep.
We have 14 sheep that we rotationally graze across 10 acres of grass and meadowland. Our breeds are primarily Rambouillet and Romney, a couple Merino and two sweet little Shetland Sheep. All of our sheep are shorn once a year and the fiber is sent off to be processed into yarn.
You may see jackets on our sheep. This is to keep the wool free of sticks and twigs, and make it easier to clean when being processed.
-
Beauty.
We grow flowers to bring beauty to the world, sustain our many native pollinators, and dye plants for dyeing fabric or our own Hobo Ranch yarn.
“The Earth laughs in flowers,” said Ralph Waldo Emerson.
-
Food.
At Hobo Ranch we use organic practices in our operations. In the vegetable garden, we grow all sorts of fruits and veggies under a 50 foot high tunnel. We also have an orchard where we grow apples, cherries, and apricots as well as raspberries and blackberries.
The winter squash tunnel becomes a sight to see late in the Summer, producing beautiful winter squash in a tunnel you can walk through.
